Mazes Progress
10/17/2011
Ive been pushing my fork of Escape - Escape Maze (I know, crappy title but thats a work in progress as well :-p). Anyway, the essential basics are there: each level is a randomly generated maze, a rudimentary UI is implemented, and a level progression system is implemented. Not to mention the obvious glitter and glam that Ive always been terrible with, I still need to do weapons, zombies, and saving civilians. If you want to check it out, check the Escape! fork on GitHub!

Mazes
09/25/2011
So this idea initially started as a javascript game I made about a month ago - rather randomly - that randomly generates a maze and you have to move from the entrance to the exit. Check out the links page for the URL to this game, but be warned that the javascript use is heavy and the page may load very slowly if youre on a slow compy. In any case, reading up on the algorithm for this gave me an idea to try integrating this with the zombie game I was working on. As I havent received any feedback on the game so far, I figured taking a bit of a new direction could be a bit fun. Im currently conceiving a game of randomly generated mazes wherein the player must navigate to the exit and kill zombies on the way out. You get points based on difficulty, number of zombies killed, etc... Details to follow, but in the meantime feel free to check out the javascript game!

Some Updates
08/05/2011
I got a job!!! My first job out of grad school is with the Harrington Hospital Recovery Services program in Southbridge, MA. Ill be working as a Mental Health Clinician and am VERY excited! As for the computer stuff, with my recent move to MA, job search/starting a job, and oh, getting MARRIED I havent had any time, really, to look at coding. Not that anyone is reading any of this, but I hit a bit of a wall with Escape! because I realized I needed greater artistic talent than I have access to. I have some friends who offered to help, but Im not sure if they have the time right now to get too involved (not to mention that I have no real direction with the project from here). In any case, if anyone has any ideas or thoughts as to game functionality/improvements Id LOVE to hear from you! My interest in the game hasnt waned so much as Ive hit technical and practical barriers that I cant surpass at the moment. Other programming ideas and suggestions may follow this post, but for now Im still taking a break. I have looked at the OpenXcom project (looks like LOTS of fun!) but they have more use for bug testers (which Id like to be, but - again, havent had the time recently).

Graduation and Such
04/09/2011
Yup, all of these posts basically saying how Ive been too busy with homework in grad school will soon come to an end. Soon Ill be too busy with (hopefully) paid work to be able to do much work on anything... oh wait... that makes me sad :( The good news? Ill still have more time than I do now and I look forward to using that time productively. In fact, Ive recently come across a fan-made opensource recode of the X-Com: {Enemy Unknown,UFO Defense} (the original, for all you non-cool people out there). openXcom is the name and you can find the link to the main site in the links section. Im not really doing much (not a whole lot of work to spread around, it would seem) but Im having fun sauntering around the IRC and trolling the forum :-p Oh! On a last note, I have come back to Escape! (yes, I am still in school... bad me) and looked into a more precise polygon collision detection algorithm. That means that some of the challenges I had before with angled walls and the like will soon be gone. My next step after that is to look over the SDL loading code (I still dont think Im getting it right... still seems like Im doing it in a more complicated manner than I should). Anyway, PLEASE give feed back! I havent heard from anyone and I would love to get some ideas. Ive kinda hit a creative block with this one, but dont want to stop with it :-/ If you want to stay anonymous, please feel free to send me a message via the about me page!

Escape! Windows Build
02/26/2011
It took the better part of winter break, but there is now a Windows build for the Escape! demo. If you get the chance, and run either a Windows or Linux box (or willing to compile yourself), I ask that everyone have a look through the demo and send me some feedback. You can contact me via the form on the About Me page (there is also a direct e-mail address on the Resume on that page too). Ill finish off this quick message with a final note: I will be graduating this coming May and, after moving across state lines, getting married, and starting a new job (hopefully), I want to push through with some more work on this project. To do this, however, I could really use some help (especially in the art/sound department, but coding or other project-specific stuff would be awesome too). If youre interested in helping out please let me know (and dont feel that you need to be an expert with any of this, I am learning myself).
